Assistant Head of School
Location: Royston, Hertfordshire
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: L1-L6 (£49,781 - £56,316 per annum)
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Assistant Head of School to join our leadership team in Royston, Hertfordshire. Assistant Head of School Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with staff and students to maintain and achieve the school's strategic objectives.
- Support the Head of School in the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of our Quality Improvement Plan.
- Must be able to commute to Royston, Hertfordshire.
- Lead and motivate staff by overseeing their progress while contributing to their ongoing training and professional development.
- Take responsibility for the welfare, conduct, and academic progress of students, ensuring that the needs and priorities of individuals are effectively communicated to all staff.
- Work in partnership with parents, carers, external agencies, and the wider community to foster positive relationships and improve pupil achievement, personal development, and inclusion opportunities.
- Lead, monitor, and evaluate the school curriculum alongside key staff, ensuring that student attainment and progress are effectively tracked and enhanced.
Assistant Head of School Skills and Qualifications:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Proven leadership experience
- Must be able to commute to Royston, Hertfordshire.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Accredited training in special education, particularly in areas such as PMLD, SLD, or ASD needs
- NPQSL (National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership)
Assistant Head of School Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of proven successful teaching experience, ideally within a special needs environment.
- Experience in teaching in a specialist environment, with evidence of successfully translating policy into effective practice.
- Experience in building and maintaining strong links with the community, as well as leading significant areas of school improvement.
- Experience of working with school governors, trustees, or executives to support school governance and leadership.
Assistant Head of School Professional Knowledge:
- A clear understanding of the essential qualities required for effective teaching and learning, particularly in special schools.
- Experience in applying behaviour and teaching strategies that foster positive outcomes for students with special educational needs.
- Understanding of interventions like TEACCH or similar ASD support strategies.
- Up-to-date knowledge of statutory regulations and guidance, including OFSTED requirements and the latest developments in special education.
