Learning Support Assistant (Temp to Perm)
Inspire EHC are partnering with a specialist SEN school in the Colchester area to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant on a temporary to permanent basis.
This rewarding role offers the opportunity to support children and young people with additional needs within a nurturing and inclusive educational environment. The school provides specialist support for learners with a range of SEND needs and is committed to helping every pupil achieve their full potential.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to help create a positive, engaging and supportive learning environment. You will support learners both on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, helping them develop academically, socially and emotionally.
This position would suit an individual who is passionate about supporting young people and making a genuine difference to their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group support to students throughout the school day
- Assist teachers with classroom activities, lesson preparation and learning resources
- Support learners to access the curriculum and engage positively in lessons
- Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, independence and self-esteem
- Apply a nurturing, child-centred approach to support emotional wellbeing and learning
- Assist with individual learning plans and educational programmes under teacher guidance
- Support communication, behaviour management and social development goals
- Accompany students on educational visits and off-site activities where required
- Supervise breaktimes and lunchtime activities
- Maintain accurate records and share relevant information with the wider team
- Promote safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and professional standards at all times
- Support students with personal care needs where required
- Undertake driving responsibilities if required by the school
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Support Worker or within a similar role
- Experience supporting children or young people with autism, SEND, SEMH or learning difficulties is highly desirable
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent
- NVQ Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning is desirable but not essential
- Full UK driving licence preferred
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
