Role: SEN Teacher (Qualified Teacher / Experienced SEN Instructor)

Inspire EHC is seeking an experienced and nurturing SEN Teacher near Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, to deliver a bespoke package of 1:1 academic tuition and learning support for a Year 5 pupil currently without school provision near Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. This is an urgent placement requiring a practitioner who can provide a safe, structured and highly responsive learning environment.
The learner has an EHCP, is awaiting further neurodevelopmental assessment (ADHD/ASC under consideration), and requires significant support with emotional regulation, social skills, and confidence building, in addition to targeted academic teaching in English and Maths.
Your role will be instrumental in helping this young person re‑engage with learning, rebuild self‑esteem, and work towards reintegration into education.
SEN Teacher Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality, differentiated English and Maths tuition in line with Key Stage 2 expectations
- Use trauma‑informed, relational and child‑centred approaches to support emotional regulation
- Implement strategies aligned with the student’s EHCP, including:
Zones of Regulation
Structured routines, visual supports and predictable boundaries
Movement breaks and access to safe spaces
- Develop learning experiences linked to the pupil’s strengths and interests (e.g., practical tasks, football, outdoor activities, construction/experiments)
- Build a strong, trusting relationship to reduce anxiety and increase engagement
- Manage behaviour proactively using de‑escalation strategies and clear, calm communication
- Support social interaction skills such as turn‑taking, coping with losing, and sharing attention
- Provide a consistent, encouraging environment with reduced pressure around writing demands
- Liaise with Inspire EHC, family, and professionals to contribute to the learner’s reintegration plan
- Maintain accurate records of progress, behaviour, and daily communication
About the Learner
The ideal practitioner will be confident supporting a learner with the following profile:
- Year 5 boy with SEN and an EHCP
- Strengths in Maths, reading, curiosity, and practical learning
- Difficulties with emotional regulation; may become disruptive or attempt to leave lessons when overwhelmed
- Low confidence and resilience, particularly around writing tasks
- Needs strong relational support, structured routines, and flexible, interest‑based activities
- Benefits from movement breaks, sensory strategies, and calm, low‑arousal environments
- Commutable to Chatteris, Cambridgeshire.
SEN Teacher Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), or substantial SEN specialist teaching/tutoring experience
- Experience supporting learners with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs
- Skilled in de‑escalation, behaviour support, and trauma‑informed practice
- Ability to plan and deliver tailored learning at KS2 level
- Compassion, patience, and the ability to build trust quickly
- Strong communication and record‑keeping skills
- Commutable to Chatteris, Cambridgeshire.
