Our school provides specialist day placements for students with communication and interaction difficulties, as well as those with specific learning needs, such as Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). With small class sizes—maximum 10 students per class—and a minimum of 3 staff members per class, you’ll be able to focus on the individual needs of each student. Plus, you will have constant access to an experienced and stable Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and an onsite clinical support team.
Key Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Develop warm, caring, and supportive relationships with pupils, helping them feel safe, and creating an environment where they can learn and enjoy school.
- Promote independence and personal growth, encouraging pupils to exceed expectations in behaviour and self-development.
- Support the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring all activities are challenging, high-quality, and differentiated to meet individual student needs.
- Assist the Class Teacher in all daily classroom activities and contribute to the efficient operation of the school.
- Respond effectively to the changing needs of students, ensuring their cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, and physical development.
- Collaborate effectively within a multi-professional team to provide the best possible support for students.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- GCSE Maths and English Language (minimum Grade 4 or equivalent) is essential.
- Experience working with students with SEMH and ASD.
- Must be commutable to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
