SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Smallfield, Surrey
Salary: £13.51 – £14.45 per hour (depending on qualifications)
Hours: 40 hours per week, term time only
Type: Long term / Temp to Perm / Perm options
Start date: As soon as possible
This specialist primary school in Smallfield, Surrey, supports pupils aged 6–11 with communication difficulties linked to Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
The school provides a highly supportive and structured environment. Although it is a primary setting, many pupils are working at least two academic years below their chronological age. The role involves supporting high-quality teaching and learning and helping pupils feel safe, engaged, and able to enjoy their learning.
Key duties include:
• Building warm, caring, and supportive relationships with pupils
• Promoting independence and personal development
• Supporting the Class Teacher with the day-to-day running of the classroom
• Adapting to the varying and changing needs of the school to support smooth daily operations
• Supporting pupils’ cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, and physical development
• Occasional physical intervention may be required; full training will be provided
Skills and qualifications:
• GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent)
• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential
• Experience working in a special school or SEN environment is highly desirable
• Team Teach training is desirable (training can be provided)
