Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week + 1–2 sleep-ins per week (Term Time)
Salary: £14 – £18 per hour (depending on experience)
Contract: Full-time
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Student Support and Care Mentor (SEMH) to join our team in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. This rewarding role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Initially, you will work as a SEN Teaching Assistant for one month, with a view to progressing into a more pastoral, long-term mentoring position. You will play a key role in ensuring that each child’s Individual Support Plan (ISP) aligns with their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and Thrive targets.
As a Student Support and Care Mentor, you will provide daily care, guidance, and emotional support for children, helping them build personal and social confidence while working closely with the Senior SEMH team.
Key Responsibilities

Provide Individual Support: Oversee each child’s progress through their ISP and EHCP goals, nurturing their social, emotional, and educational development.

Family Engagement: Act as the main contact for parents and carers, offering updates, guidance, and reassurance.

Team Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, care staff, and external agencies to provide a consistent, holistic approach to child development.

Create a Nurturing Environment: Support pupils socially and emotionally to help them thrive in a caring, structured school environment.

Sleep-In Duties: Participate in the sleep-in rota (1–2 nights per week) to ensure continuous support and care for pupils.
Skills and Requirements

A compassionate, patient, and nurturing approach to working with children who have SEMH needs.

Previous experience with ISPs and understanding of EHCP goals.

Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with parents, staff, and external professionals.

Team player with the ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team.

Based in or able to commute to Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
