Teaching Assistant
Location: Gamlingay area, Cambridgeshire
Pay: £90–£100 per day, dependent on experience
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, full-time, term time only
Contract: Temporary, opportunity for long term
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has become available for a dedicated and supportive Teaching Assistant to join a friendly primary school in the Gamlingay area.
You will play an important role in helping pupils access their learning, develop their confidence and enjoy a positive school experience. The position will mainly focus on supporting children within Key Stage 1, although you may be asked to provide support across other year groups as the needs of the school change.
The school places a strong emphasis on inclusion and provides support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). This would be a particularly valuable opportunity for someone who is interested in developing their experience within SEND.
Key Responsibilities
As a Teaching Assistant, your duties are likely to include:
- Assisting the class teacher with lessons, activities and everyday classroom routines
- Providing targeted one-to-one or small-group support when needed
- Supporting pupils throughout KS1 and potentially other year groups
- Helping children with additional needs to participate fully in school life
- Using appropriate strategies to support pupils with ASC and other SEND requirements
- Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupils to engage with their learning
- Helping children develop their independence, communication and social skills
- Providing reassurance and encouragement to pupils who may require additional support
- Maintaining a positive, safe and inclusive classroom environment
- Adjusting your approach according to individual pupils and their learning needs
- Communicating and working effectively with teachers and other school staff
About You
We are looking for an individual who is:
- Warm, approachable and genuinely passionate about working with children
- Patient, reliable and able to remain calm in challenging situations
- Interested in developing a career or further experience within education
- Experienced in working with children or young people
- Ideally familiar with SEND, ASC or other additional learning needs
- Confident in building positive relationships with pupils
- Flexible and able to adapt to different situations throughout the school day
- A strong team player who is happy to work alongside teaching and support staff
- In possession of an enhanced Adult & Child DBS on the Update Service
