Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire
Start Date: April 2026
Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 15:30 (term time only)
Pay: £95.00 - £105 per day (including holiday pay)
Contract: Temp to Permanent
Make a meaningful difference every day in a specialist SEN school supporting children and young people aged 2–19 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism, and other complex needs. Pupils may also have physical or sensory impairments. This is a nurturing, supportive environment where your role will help build confidence, independence, and a love of learning.
About the role:
This opportunity is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for helping young people and making a positive impact. No prior experience is required – full support and guidance will be provided. You will work closely with pupils, particularly secondary-aged students, including those who may display challenging behaviours, offering consistent support in and out of the classroom.
Responsibilities:
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to help them feel safe and supported
- Support personalised learning activities that encourage engagement and development
- Provide 1:1 and small group support with a focus on communication, behaviour, and sensory needs
- Assist with personal care and mobility where required, following individual care plans
- Work alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff to maintain a consistent and positive environment
- Encourage independence through life skills and community-based activities
- Be ready to take part in physical activity such as floor-based play, interventions, and responding to escalated situations
Requirements:
- A positive attitude and a genuine desire to support children and young people with additional needs
- Patience, resilience, and a proactive approach
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- Willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS and register on the Update Service
- Full-time right to work in the UK
